I'm back from Los Angeles again. And, although I want to see my sister (and the friends I didn't get to see this time around) I don't think I'm going to be going back for a while. I'm just burnt out on that drive, and I have no money. Plus, I have to get ready for next semester.

I talked to Mickey today, who sent me out a packet that he sends to all the teachers. It hit me like a ton of feathers that, man, I'm (probably) going to be a teacher next semester. I have to put together my reader (the collection of poems that my class will be studying) and a syllabus.

I love syllabi, and now I get to write my own. I'm working on it today, in fact. Isn't life grand?

Speaking of life being grand, Spinal Tap was absolutely the coolest concert ever.

I don't know how to fully explain the joy of seeing David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel and Derek Smalls in person, even if I had to continually remind myself that Spinal Tap is not a real band, and those are not their real names.

They carry off the "aging rock star" conceit so well-- they have exactly the same outfits and wigs, except that they're, well, old. Derek Smalls has the same hair, except with a bald spot in the back. How hilarious is that? I love Spinal Tap.

It was a tiny venue, and so our seats were amazingly good. My favorite bit was when an audience member requested "Saucy Jack" and David St. Hubbins said sarcastically, "Oh yeah, sure, we have the whole cast of 'Saucy Jack' waiting backstage." It made me laugh.

They did most of my favorite songs, including "Break Like the Wind" (I'm embarrassed how much I like this song), "All the Way Home" and, of course, "Stonehenge." I also enjoyed "Bitch School" which I'd never heard before and is totally twisted and wrong. I remember a lyric along the lines of, "You'll come faster for your master once you've been to Bitch School" or something. Twisted, man.

And what was extra cool is that, before the show began, everyone stood up and started cheering madly. We realized that they were applauding one of the audience members: Rob Reiner (aka Marty DiBergi) himself. Nifty!

I went to see the band with Probst and Tim. Tim ate seven (fine, six and two thirds) Krispy Kreme donuts within five minutes, and then had half a plate of nachos. Every time I turned around, he had more food in his mouth. I asked, "Are you stoned?" and he said, "No. I'm just really hungry." Then he giggled a lot.

Tim is funny when he's "hungry."

The next day, I took Probst to Disneyland. Despite the fact that it was gorgeous weather and a weekend in the summer, it wasn't crowded at all. We went on Jungle Cruise, Indiana Jones, Haunted Mansion, Tiki Room, Splash Mountain, Storybook Land, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Star Tours. I love Disneyland, so that was fun. Plus I got to see Bruce.

Probst said that people were looking at his Spinal Tap shirt covetously. They were obviously jealous of us because we saw Spinal Tap. "People should be envying us." "I envy us." "Yeah, so do I."

In other, pee-in-my-pants-with-excitement news, I found out something pee-in-my-pants exciting.

Remember how excited I am about Enterprise? Yes? And do you remember that my sister and cousin work on a TV show? Yes? As it turns out, the Enterprise soundstage is right next door to them, on the same lot. Right. Next. Door.

I hardly know what to do with myself. They have some connections that can probably get me, if not on the set, then nearby to it. If not right on top of Scott Bakula while naked, then perhaps close to him fully clothed. Scott Bakula. Oh my holy lord.

There has always been a short list of celebrities that I would be out-and-out starstruck to meet. Kate Winslet. Steve Martin. Madonna. Scott Bakula. I know Scott Bakula isn't a huge star in comparison to those other people, but I can't help it. I just love him.

Now that I think about it, I may have to go back to L.A. after all. See my sister, meet Scott Bakula, perhaps bear a couple of his children, then come home again. I just have to schedule it around Tim's upcoming visit and the start of school. That's right-- Laurie will be home soon, school will start again, and Tim is coming to visit!

See what I mean? Life is grand.

"I felt pretty good throughout the race until I hit the wall at around mile 20. I was hoping to avoid or at least delay hitting the wall by maintaining my glycogen stores by eating energy gels, but by mile 13, I just couldn't eat anymore."
